The Northern Kentucky Community Chorus

Singing is something that everyone can do. It helps us express ourselves. We learn about composers and music from a wide range of countries and time periods. We learn about breathing and vocal production. Singing in choirs creates a cultural community that gives us belonging and joy. Everyone should sing in a choir — at school, church, temple, or a community choir. There is a place for everyone and we want you to Come and Sing!

 

Our Come and Sing events are open to singers of all ages from 9th grade through adults and will be held at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 2690 Dixie Highway, Lakeside Park, KY. To register for any of these events, please fill out the form on NKCC’s website: nkychorus.org

We are thrilled to offer three events this season with outstanding conductors:

Saturday, September 30, 2023 (10:00 am – 4:30 pm)
Come and Sing: Vivaldi                     cost: $10
Sponsored by Jim Wakefield
Conducted by Dr. Joe Miller, Director and Professor of Choral Studies at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music, you will spend the day learning Vivaldi’s Gloria, a wonderful Baroque multi-movement piece that every singer will enjoy. Soloists from CCM will join us in the afternoon for our final session, a “performance” of what we have learned that day. You may bring your own score or once you have registered a PDF score will be emailed to you. The cost of $10 covers the lunch that will be served. Registration is open from August 25 – September 25.

Friday, December 8, 2023 (7:00 pm)
Come and Sing: Messiah                   cost: free
Sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Community Chorus and Lakeside Presbyterian Church
Conducted by Stephanie Nash, Director of Music at Lakeside Presbyterian Church and Artistic Director of the Northern Kentucky Community Chorus, you will spend the evening singing Part One of Handel’s Messiah, a musical staple of every Christmas season. Accompanied by professional instrumentalists and soloists, you will sing the chorus movements. You may bring your own score or once you have registered a PDF score will be emailed to you. Scores will also be available at the door.

A freewill offering will be collected for Abraham’s Pantry, an interfaith organization that provides food and cleaning products to our neighbors in need. A reception will follow the event. Registration for your reserved seating is open. The form is on the front page of our website.


 

Saturday, April 6, 2024 (10:00 am – 4:30 pm)
Come and Sing: Schubert                cost: $10

Conducted by Katie Barton, Director of Choral Studies at Northern Kentucky University, you will spend the day learning Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G Major, one of the musical gems of the Romantic era. Soloists from NKU will join us in the afternoon for our final session, a “performance” of what we have learned that day. You may bring your own score or once you have registered a PDF score will be emailed to you. The cost of $10 covers the lunch that will be served. Registration will close at the end of the day on April 3rd.
